OSHA continues its outreach campaign

On Monday 4th November, 2024, the Trinidad Tissues Limited launched the beginning of their ‘health & safety month.’ The theme for this event, “our safety is my priority, mine, yours, ours” will focus on the importance of safety being both a personal and collective responsibility. Ms. Annabel Seepersad, Safety & Health Inspector II, delivered the feature address to some of the employees at the company.
Safety in any work environment should be a priority; more so in one where there is the operating of heavy machinery and use of chemicals. Factory environments can be hazardous due to the machinery, chemicals, tools, and sometimes physically demanding tasks involved. Therefore maintaining a high standard of personal safety is crucial for those working in a factory setting. Not only does this protect workers from potential injuries, but it also ensures the efficient operation of the factory and fosters a safe working culture.
In July of this year, Trinidad Tissues began its “journey to zero accidents.” This requires great commitment to adhering to safety and health best practices as the company’s environment makes it very easy for accidents to take place if proper safety policy is not followed. According to the OSH Agency’s database, there has been a reduction in the amount of accidents at the company within the past two years.
In any work setting whether factory or otherwise, personal safety should never be compromised. A strong dedication to safety reduces the risk of injuries, promote employee well-being, and fosters a culture of trust and efficiency. For both workers and employers, prioritizing safety is a wise investment in health, morale and productivity.
OSHA remains committed to protecting the safety and health of all persons in Trinidad and Tobago through sensitization and enforcement of the OSH Act. For further information on how you can request the Agency’s services, please check the services tab of our website.
