What We Do
The OSH Agency is primarily concerned with ensuring compliance with the OSH legislation. The following are a list of functions that the Agency performs to accomplish its core business:

Regulatory
Enforcement of OSH legislation
   
Investigative
Investigation of accidents and complaints in Industrial Establishments (workplaces) as defined by the OSH Act, 2004
   
Preventive
Review of Machinery Reports to ensure defects are corrected before mishaps
   
Advisory
Advises various state agencies including the Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards (TTBS), Environmental Management Authority (EMA), Tourism Development Company (TDC), Customs and Excise Division. The Local Health Authorities and Town and Country Planning Division are advised on matters of Occupational Safety and Health in respect of plans for new factory buildings and installations. Technical advice and assistance to the Commissioner of Police in connection with the use, storage, destruction, of explosives and criminal offences involving the use of explosives
   
Informational
Provision of data to stakeholders including the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the Inter-governmental Forum on Chemical Safety. Provision of lectures and promotional material to facilitate compliance


In order to enhance safety and health culture and to improve compliance, activities will also be directed to:

Cooperation and partnerships with stakeholders
   
Awareness raising programmes
   
Outreach programmes (exhibitions, lectures, workshops, promotion materials, etc)
   
Consultation programmes for small businesses
